Change Your Life Challenge
I’ve never liked fitness challenges. Most of them are weight loss challenges and I’m not a weight loss trainer.
The way I see it is that weight loss goals are temporary. You either lose weight, or you don’t, either way you need a new reason to exercise.
You can’t just keep losing weight forever. And if you don’t lose weight does that mean you stop exercising?
There are so many other benefits to working out. How about just being healthy? How about avoiding cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and diabetes?
What about your mental health?
Wouldn’t it be nice to be stronger, have more energy, and fewer aches and pains?
You see these are the life changing effects that regular exercise can have. You don’t always get that from simply losing weight.
That’s why I don’t like weight loss challenges, and why I’ve never ran a fitness challenge.
But then I started thinking, what if I can challenge people to change their lives? What would that kind of challenge look like?
I’ve come up with something that fits the bill. It goes deeper than what you look like, and gets to the core of you as a person.
Change Your Life Challenge
It’s not about losing weight. We’re looking for people who want to make lasting change.
I used to be the kind of person who had body image issues and couldn’t get motivated to workout. Now I’m motivated (and still have body image issues)! The truth is, I’d rather be a disciplined dad rather than an instagram influencer.

These are the types of fitness challenges from the shallow side of the industry.
I can’t hate on them too much because they get people motivated, but then what?
Motivation only gets you started. Discipline is what keeps you going.
If you can turn it into a habit, you’ll never have to worry about motivation or discipline ever again!
If you can do that, it’ll change your life. And I’m going to challenge you to change your life!

Habits > Fat Furnace
I turned a drug habit into an exercise habit. I used to have a problem with substance abuse. You name it, I did it. I desperately wanted a different life. Long story short, I started going to the gym instead of getting high. Eventually that became my life. There were certain steps I figured out along the way. Now I’ve outlined those steps for others to follow.

Do you see yourself as the type of person who works out? Not occasionally. All the time, and forever?
Serious question: will you exercise until the day you die?
I hope you said “yes” to that, because as someone who has trained senior citizens for two decades, trust me when I tell you that exercise offsets the negative effects of aging.
The difference between your average Grandma Betty, and one of my masters powerlifters, is striking!
Heck, I have some 70 year olds that are in better shape than people in their 30’s and 40’s. Imagine having a retiree, old enough to be your parent, that’s stronger, better conditioned and more flexible than you.
If you’re in that category, don’t despair. Instead, look at these people as someone to emulate.
“I wanna be like that when I grow up” is the attitude you should have.
And you can be like them! But you have to take that first step and get onto the path of changing your life.
I know it’s not easy, but I know you can do it. I’ve done it, and I’ve laid out the steps that you can follow to do it too.

These are all things I used to say when I worked with the residents of a retirement community. Those folks taught me a lot. Mostly because I was young and inexperienced, whereas they were old and wise. These people came to the gym everyday like their life depended on it! Because IT DID! And so does yours, too! I’m looking for people who don’t want to waste away with age. I created a fitness challenge that focuses on habits because that’s what healthy living is. That’s what I learned from those seniors at the retirement community, and what we accomplished with the Strength After Sixty program. Don’t let another year slip by. You will never struggle with motivation because it’s just what you do. It’s who you are - someone who works out.
Think of any other habit you have… good or bad… it almost happens automatically.
Wouldn’t that be nice if going to the gym happened automatically?
It can. You just have to look past your fitness goals.
You have to focus on the process of achieving them.

Have you ever paid attention to your self-talk?
Are you encouraging and forgiving? Or do you say things to yourself that you would NEVER say to anyone else?
Do you use phrases like, “I can’t do that”, “I’m too old” “I’ve got too many injuries or not enough time?” In other words, do you make excuses?
I think everyone has a little bit of negative self-talk. Whether or not we realize we are doing it, it’s easy for us to self sabotage.
I’m no psychologist, but I do know what kind of mindset it takes to improve your health and fitness. If you’ve worked with me before, especially personal training clients, you’ve likely received some mindset coaching from me.
A lot of it has to do with that inner voice that governs us. It's so easy to allow self limiting beliefs into our psyche. And sometimes we don’t even know they are there!
I’m here to challenge you to take an honest look at your thoughts, words and deeds; and make changes where necessary. In doing so, you will change your life.
