I was recently asked “How did you build such a great community of support at BKC?”
I answered, “I don’t know”
Then I thought about it for a week or two and here’s what I came up with…
I am a positive person by nature and I try to surround myself with other positive people. I do what I can to lift people up, encourage them and I aim to inspire with both my words and actions. Nowhere is this more true than in the gym and with the people I have the privilege to train.
I am passionate about strength training and my love for the “iron game” has never wavered. I never get tired of training people, I never get tired of training myself and I never have a day where I don’t look forward to going to work. I view this as something I “get” to do rather than something I “have” to do.
Committed to Success
The level of commitment I have here is not something I can easily put into words. But I’m ALL IN! I’ve put all my eggs into this one basket because I believe it’s my calling, my mission to instruct and inspire people to live stronger, healthier lives. And I know that if you succeed, than I succeed.
The respect goes in a couple directions – I respect anyone who steps through my doors as someone who wants to improve themselves. And the more “foreign” this place is, the more respect I have for you as someone stepping out of their comfort zone. In turn, I expect respect, for me and others. I will have those difficult conversations with people who might have BO, offensive language or gossip; and I’ll try to be as respectful as possible about it by talking to them in person and in private.
The other respect goes to the gym itself. I keep it clean and stocked with the essentials (water, towels, chalk, tape, liniments, toiletries, etc.). I buy the best equipment I can afford , maintain it and keep it organized (borderline OCD about it). I also don’t unnecessarily abuse the equipment or my authority as the owner/head trainer.
Although this could be a barrier to some otherwise serious people, I think our membership rates attracts people who value their health & fitness. BKC is not some $10 a month gym that locks you into a yearly membership and hopes you don’t come. I want you to be here and I want you to be as committed as I am.
You’re not just another body in a sea of nameless faces here; you’re part of the family. That’s the way I feel about about it and I want you to feel the same; your home away from home.
Many people have told me that coming to my gym is the best part of their week and that’s not something I take lightly. I’m humbled by those words and I couldn’t be happier to be able to provide that kind of environment.
So those are a few things that come to mind when I think of the BKC community and how we got to where we’re at.
Of course, none of this is possible without our members, and for that I thank you all!
